High quality hair care products can help hair look like it’s shiny and healthy, but how does your hair look when it’s dried without the help of heat or styling aids? There is a lot that can be done internally to improve the external look of your hair. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your diet.

Eating more of certain foods can provide your body with the vitamins and minerals it needs to grow healthy, shiny, and soft hair. Though not a cure for baldness, these foods, suggested by WEBMD.com, can add life to dry, limp locks:

Salmon: It’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12 and iron, which boost the health of your scalp.

Dark Green Vegetables: The vitamins A and C found in greens such as spinach help the body produce sebum, an oily substance secreted by the hair follicles. It’s natural conditioner for the hair.

Nuts: Walnuts, cashews, pecans and almonds, especially, are good sources of zinc, which can ward off shedding.

Poultry: Severe protein deficiency can make the hair dull and brittle. But foods such as chicken and turkey can fix that.

Milk and Yogurt: Dairy, of course, is a great source of calcium, which is important for your hair growth.
